Accessibility
Everyone who served, and everyone who stands with them, should be able to use this site. Here is what we do to make that true, and how to reach us when it falls short.
Our commitment
The Oath & Oak is committed to making theoathandoak.com accessible to the widest possible audience, including veterans and family members who use assistive technology. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and we treat accessibility as ongoing work.
What we build for
- Text and interface colors that meet AA contrast on every background, including gold-on-dark surfaces.
- Full keyboard navigation with visible focus states. No mouse required.
- Descriptive alt text on meaningful images. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Captions on video content and written summaries alongside The Oak Lines episodes.
- Touch targets of at least 44px on mobile, and layouts that reflow without horizontal scrolling down to small screens.
- Reduced-motion preferences respected. Animations are disabled when your device asks for it.
Known limitations
Some content on this site comes from third-party services, including podcast players (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube), our newsletter signup form, event listings, and the shop. We choose vendors with accessibility support and pass issues to them when we find them, but we cannot always control how their embeds behave with assistive technology. If one of these blocks you, contact us and we will get you the same content another way.
Standards & review
We review new pages against WCAG 2.1 AA before they ship and periodically re-check existing pages with automated tools and manual keyboard and screen-reader testing. As a service-disabled veteran-owned business working alongside government partners, we hold ourselves to the spirit of Section 508 as well.
